Keeping the public informed of matters relating to nuclear safety and radiation protection is one of the key tasks assigned to ASN under Act no. 2006-686 of 13 June 2006 on nuclear transparency and safety.

The ASN Public Information and Documentation Centre in Paris helps to accomplish this task. It is currently the only nuclear and radiation protection information centre in France that members of the general public can visit without an appointment.

In 2008, the Centre responded to queries from more than 2,950 people ((replying to questions from Internet users and sending out copies of publications) and received about a hundred visits. It is regarded by the general public as a source of information on particular events such as the incidents at the Tricastin facility in July 2008.
